Why services have a name
If you buy the same product more than once, for example a PortWall WAF licence for each of three Windows servers, every service has the same product name. The server name you give each one is what tells them apart: the Services list shows it after the product name, for example PortWall WAF for Windows - Premium - web-01.
Naming a service when you order
When you order, the Product Configuration step asks for a Server name. Use something your team recognises
and that stays true, such as the server's hostname or its role: web-01, shop.example.com or Dubai appliance.
Up to 40 characters are kept. The name is only a label for you; it does not have to match anything on the server.
Renaming a service
- Sign in to https://portwall.net/billing/ and open Services.
- In the row of the service, choose Edit label.
- Type the new name and save it.
The new name shows in the list straight away. Renaming changes nothing about the service itself: a PortWall WAF licence keeps its key and stays active on the same server.
Services ordered before names were asked for
A service ordered without a name shows the product name only. Give it a name with Edit label in the Services list. For PortWall WAF, the service's page also shows the server the licence is active on, which helps you match a licence to a server before you name it.
Moving a licence to another server
Renaming a PortWall WAF licence does not move it. To move a licence to a different server, enter its key on the new server; see How to buy PortWall and get your licence key. Then rename the service to match.
