PortWall for Windows Server
The web installer is a few megabytes. It asks for your licence key, downloads the current release of PortWall, checks it, and opens the installer with your key already filled in.

Version 1.2.50 · 6.6 MB · Windows Server 2016 or later (64-bit)

Installing
- Run portwall-install.exe as Administrator and enter your licence key.
- It downloads PortWall (about 180 MB) and checks it before running it.
- The PortWall installer opens with your key filled in. Choose the install folder and press Install.
- Installing does not move any site behind PortWall. You do that in the console when you are ready.
What you need
- A PortWall licence key. It is in your account at portwall.net/billing once you have ordered.
- Windows Server 2016 or later (64-bit), an Administrator account and at least 2 GB of free disk space.
- Outbound HTTPS from the server to dl.portwall.net and PortWall's licence service. Updates come the same way.
Check the file
The installer is not yet signed with a Windows code-signing certificate, so your browser and Windows SmartScreen may warn you before it runs. Compare its checksum with the SHA-256 above before you run it:
Get-FileHash C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\portwall-install.exe -Algorithm SHA256
The documentation lists each warning and what to click. The installer it downloads is checked against PortWall's release signature before anything is installed.
Scripted installs and uninstalling
Install without a window, and wait for it to finish:
Start-Process .\portwall-install.exe -ArgumentList '--key <licence key> --quiet' -Wait
To remove PortWall, run portwall-install.exe --uninstall as Administrator. It reads the licence key from the installation and works even if your licence has expired or been cancelled.
PortWall Linux appliance
The appliance runs on its own virtual machine or server in front of your web servers. Choose the image for your platform; you activate it with your licence key on first start.
Images
- KVM / Proxmox: qcow2 image
- VMware (and AWS import): VMDK image
- Google Cloud: image archive (gcp.tar.gz)
- Bare metal or any other hypervisor: installer ISO
Each release lists the SHA-256 of every image in its SHA256SUMS file. Appliances update themselves from the console once installed.
